this is such a helpful article, demystifying AI for those of us who still feel afraid, and pointing out how useful it can be. I'll definitely be referring back to it
I'm running a workshop on Saurday about publishing for beginner writers. I have heard rumours that some publishers won't work with writers that have used AI for their work - do you think this is true or is it just generative AI and how will they know one way or another??
Such a minefield! I deliver academic writing workshops to university students and staff and there's a difference in opinion on whether AI can be used by students for their PhDs. Some universities are in support, others are not. In any case, how would one know for sure? Plus, does it give some students an unfair advantage if they're allowed to use it but other university students are not? I would urge caution until there's consensus. As you can see, I'm suggesting using AI in an administrative role, rather than to do any writing. And I guess to be transparent about how you've used it. As you can see though, you only have to do a google search, and you get an AI generated answer!
Thanks so much for your considered reply. I agree it is a minefield! For now, if i use it and save the answer, I am keeping a note of where I got the info from. But yes, so far advice has been that it's OK for admin or prompts but not for generative writing and I guess that sounds fair enough.
